An AI audit can mean several different things. One provider may review cybersecurity, another may examine model governance and another may produce a list of marketing tools. Before comparing prices, make sure you are comparing the same service.

For an owner trying to reduce repetitive work, an operations audit should examine how tasks move through the business and identify a sensible first improvement. It should not begin with a predetermined tool or assume that every process needs a chatbot. A useful outcome may be a better checklist, clearer ownership or a decision not to automate yet.

Define the business problem in plain language

Start with a sentence a colleague would understand: “Enquiries wait because nobody knows who owns them,” or “We keep chasing the same missing documents.” Avoid “we need AI transformation” unless you can explain the operational problem behind it.

Name the people involved, the systems they use and the point where work stalls. You do not need a perfect process map before an audit, but a real example is more useful than a list of fashionable technologies. Use a synthetic or properly redacted example if customer information is involved.

Ask the provider how it will determine whether the issue is frequent enough to justify intervention. An occasional task may be better handled manually. Complexity and subscription cost should not be added merely to demonstrate that AI is being used.

Ask what you will actually receive

A good scope describes the review activities and the final deliverable. You should know whether there is a kickoff, a workflow review, a prioritised plan and a walkthrough. Clarify how many operational areas are included and what access is expected.

The plan should explain the proposed first workflow, why it is first, what data it needs, where a person approves actions and which dependencies could block it. A tool list without those details is difficult to implement or evaluate.

Ask what is excluded. Implementation, integrations, licences, legal advice and ongoing monitoring are separate items unless explicitly included. An audit should not leave you believing a functioning assistant is already part of the fixed fee when the contract only covers recommendations.

Look for a human-approval model

“Human in the loop” is useful only if somebody can say where that person sits. Does a staff member approve a draft before it is sent? Who confirms a booking? Who is allowed to change a price? What happens when nobody reviews the queue?

Ask the provider to show a small example with a clear boundary. For a first enquiry workflow, the assistant might classify an inbound request, retrieve approved information and prepare a draft. A person checks the facts, recipient and appropriateness before sending.

Do not give an assistant broad permissions just because the underlying tool supports them. Preparing a payment reminder does not require payment authority. Reading a calendar does not automatically justify sending invitations. Privileges should follow the agreed task.

Make data handling part of the review

An audit should identify what information the workflow touches and where it goes. Request a plain-language view of the inbox, storage, integrations, model providers and draft queue. Ask about access, retention, deletion and processing location.

The UAE government's data-protection overview describes controls on personal-data processing and cross-border sharing. Different entities and sectors can have additional or different requirements. A general assurance that a tool is “secure” does not map those obligations for your workflow.

Clinics need particular care: the UAE health-ICT overview describes a separate healthcare law applying including in free zones. A sensible initial demo uses synthetic records rather than live patient data. An operations audit is not, by itself, a legal or regulatory certification.

Examine messaging assumptions

If a recommendation includes WhatsApp, ask whether it is handling an incoming request or sending marketing. Those are not interchangeable purposes. Ask how opt-in, opt-out and message eligibility will be checked and how a stop request affects other workflows.

UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 56 of 2024 addresses telemarketing, including marketing messages through social-media applications. The WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy separately covers permissions, escalation and Business Platform templates. Neither a template nor consent alone answers every legal question.

A provider should be comfortable excluding cold WhatsApp, SMS and calls from a small first project. More outbound activity is not automatically a better operational outcome. Relevant, identifiable and human-approved communication is a more defensible starting point.

Demand a baseline, not a made-up return

Ask what the business will measure before and during a pilot. Relevant measures may include handling time, missed hand-offs, correction effort, duplicate actions and unresolved requests. Count the time required for review and maintenance, not just the seconds needed to generate text.

If a provider presents an illustrative savings calculation, the assumptions should be visible and clearly separated from client results. Your team's volume, wages, exception rate and review burden are not interchangeable with another business's example.

Recovered capacity also does not automatically become profit. Staff may use it to improve service or reduce backlog. A good audit explains how the pilot will establish whether the workflow is worthwhile, rather than guaranteeing revenue before examining your operation.

Compare the total next-step cost

An inexpensive audit can lead to an expensive build. Ask about implementation, management, software subscriptions, model usage, messaging charges and the cost of changes. Clarify who owns accounts and how the workflow can be stopped or handed over.

At WH Digital, the draft offer is a 2,500 AED AI Ops Audit, with optional setup from 6,500 AED (founding clients who agree to a case study: 50% off setup) and management at 2,000 AED/month for an agreed scope. Implementation is not included in the audit. WH Digital is not registered for VAT. Third-party charges are itemised in the written proposal. The audit fee is credited in full against a subsequent build signed within 60 days of the report.

These are WH Digital's offer details, not a claim about average UAE market prices. Compare deliverables and responsibilities rather than treating any single headline fee as proof of value.

Know when not to proceed

Pause if the process has no owner, the source data is unreliable, the task rarely occurs or nobody can review the output. Improve those foundations first. Also pause if the provider wants sensitive access before explaining why it is needed.

The first result should be an understandable decision: pilot this workflow, fix the manual process first or leave it alone. That is more useful than a report recommending automation everywhere.

Read the WH Digital audit scope or use the free three-question check for an initial rule-based suggestion. A good audit makes the next decision clearer. It does not require you to suspend judgement because the word AI appears in the proposal.

Start with a plan, not another tool.

The AI Ops Audit is a 2,500 AED review of your workflow, with a prioritised plan. No guaranteed outcomes. Implementation is separate.
